TOP 4 TIPS
TOP 4 TIPS ON HOW TO WEAR SHIN PADS LIKE A PRO
How should shin pads be worn is a common question and one that is always brought up at all levels of football whether its professional football, semi-professional football, grassroots football or even a kick about at a local park. The key factors surrounding how to wear shin pads revolves around shin protection and comfort, both of which can be achieved in various ways.
Below we will list the top 4 shin pad tips and tricks to help you achieve this and help you wear your personalised shin pads correctly and a few pointers on what do you wear under shin guard that will potentially change the way you wear shin pads forever!
1) HOW TO WEAR SHIN PADS - STRAPLESS SHIN PAD APPROACH
Here at personalised shinpads we believe in strapless shinpads to help enhance your comfort whilst enjoying the beautiful game that is football, giving you full focus on your performance. We believe we have created the perfect shape pads to help stay on your shin and protect you at the same time without the straps rubbing or effecting you under your socks.
Strapless shin pads are preferred by lots of individuals in both professional leagues such as the Premier League and semi-professional leagues such as The Northwest Counties Football League to help players perform to the top level and focus on the game. We recommend strapless shin pads to avoid irritation and many of our customers at all different levels of football agree.
2) HOW TO WEAR SHIN PADS - SHIN GUARDS OVER OR UNDER SOCKS?
Next, we recommend you wear a pair of either crew or grip socks under your kit socks to help keep your shin pads in the correct position, ensuring you are wearing them correctly. The most efficient way to pull this tip off is to cut the bottom of the kit sock so that your foot in the boot is the crew sock which will give you better stability than a thin football sock. The Kit Lab provide an excellent tutorial on how to prepare your personalised shin pads, so you are match ready. Morecambe FC professional footballer Jamie Nicholson uses grip socks under his kit socks, we caught up with him for some insight on a professional’s perspective of how to wear shin pads.
“Myfavourite way to wear my personalised shin pads is by cutting kit socks and wearing grips socks underneath, with a bit of matching tape around the bottom third of the shin pads. I find this to be the ony way to get the job done and protect myself whilst maintaing comfort”.
3) HOW TO WEAR SHIN PADS - WHY SHIN GUARDS GO UNDER SOCKS...
The main reason for shin pads sitting underneath your socks is to keep them in the correct position. If they were over the front of your socks, they would have much more movement and could potentially become ineffective, therefore effecting your level of protection. To give your shin pads extra stability you can also use tape over your socks at the top and bottom of the shin pad which we would highly recommend.
4) HOW TO WEAR SHIN PADS - WHY WEAR TAPE OVER SHIN PADS?
One of the most common ways to keep your personalised shin pads in the correct position and stop the needs for adjustments to your shin pads whilst playing football is wearing sock tape over your socks and shin pads. Sock tape gives your shin pads extra stability and keeps them in place, the best part is that there is no right or wrong way to do this. The amount of tape you use, where on the shin pad you put the tape and the type of tape you use is all down to the players preference.
Based on experience we recommend applying the tape round the bottom of the shin pad and leg for 2/3 wraps of the leg, not too tight ensuring that it doesn’t interfere with the calf muscle. This tip is an easy one to overlook but is an absolute game changer so please be sure to at least give it a try.
